What you should know about Chantal Foods
For many people, the definition of organics can seem to be wide ranging and with an aura of vagueness. are not processed using irradiation, industrial solvents, or chemical food additives. Organic farming begins with the soil and works to sustain and enhance the health of soil, plants, animals, humans and the planet. This means providing the right nutrients in the right ratios and forms not compacting or over tilling and thereby destroying the soil structure ensuring good organic matter levels, healthy microbe populations and even allowing the soil to rest and rejuvenate.
We Believe the Health of Individuals and Communities Cannot be Separated from the Health of Ecosystems. Organic growing needs to be mindful of areas that get too wet to gain production from and therefore find solutions such as fencing wetlands. These yields however are healthier, not containing man made chemicals which accumulate slowly even over generations! Organic agriculture should provide everyone involved human and animal with a good quality of life, and contribute to food sovereignty and reduction of poverty. To be a good steward means to take care of and improve that which you are entrusted.
To us that means how we farm, trade and care for both humans and the environment. For the vast majority of human history, agriculture can be described as organic although fairness of trade and care for people and ecosystems was not always observed only during the 20th century was a large supply of new synthetic chemicals introduced to the food supply. Currently, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan and many other countries require producers to obtain special certification in order to market food as organic within their borders. New Zealand does not yet have law governing Organic Certification or labelling laws surrounding food certification, however several certification bodies exist including AsureQuality who certifiy Chantal described below.
Chantal creates a wide range of organic products for our customers that prefer New Zealand made. We manufacture and package these products on our Hawkes Bay premises and are quality checked by Asure Qualtiy to comply with New Zealand food safety rules and to give an assurance of our organic methods. AsureQuality is a commercial company 100 owned by the New Zealand government. We are passionate about organics because they mean health, fairness and care for our land, water, animals and people.
For this reason we have created both the Chantal Organics range and the Chantal Naturals range. This way we are able to support growers moving towards a sustainable organic future. The logo is our version of the Tree of Life, representing all that Chantal Organics Wholesalers supply or produce.
